Rating: What Is Lights In The Parkway? Lights In The Parkway is a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit! Beautiful light displays, holiday music, hot chocolate . . . what a perfect way to spend some quality time with your family during an otherwise hectic holiday season! This incredible display will celebrate the holiday season every night from November 27, 2002 through January 4, 2003 (closed Christmas Eve). This drive-through light display covers nearly 2 miles of one of Allentown's most beautiful parks (Lehigh Parkway) and features lighted trees, light tunnels and animated displays. "Lights" will transport you to a magical place filled with an abundance of lights and holiday spirit. All you need to do is gather up your family and friends and make your way to Lehigh Parkway to share in this unforgettable holiday event. Join the hundreds of thousands of visitors who leave the display full of holiday cheer. No need to worry about parking or inclement weather . . . simply stay nestled behind the wheel of your vehicle as you and your family travel through the many adventures waiting around every bend. Enjoy a variety of holiday tunes on our special Lights radio frequency (look for signs at the beginning of the display for station number). "Lights" is the centerpiece of the new Lehigh Valley Holiday Tour, which welcomes groups from across the country who want to get a glimpse of the area's Yuletide traditions, holiday attractions and cultural exhibitions. Now in its seventh shining season, "Lights" has become an annual tradition for many families throughout the Lehigh Valley. While building on the success of past years, the 2002/2003 "Lights" season promises to shine even brighter than before because of several new displays and an entirely new layout. After you tour the display, be sure to visit the Lights In The Parkway Gift Barn. As you exit the display, follow the signs to the Lights In The Parkway Gift Barn. The Gift Barn features fine crafts and unique gift ideas for everyone on your holiday shopping list as well as refreshments and Lights In The Parkway souvenirs. Santa will be visiting the barn every Friday and Saturday evening during the display and photos with Santa are available for $5.00. This family entertainment experience lasts approximately 25 minutes, not including the time visitors wish to spend in the Gift Barn. Since the admission price is per vehicle rather than per person, it is one of the most economical types of holiday entertainment -- an entire family can enjoy the display for as little as five dollars (with the purchase of an advance sale ticket). Part of the proceeds from Lights In The Parkway fund recreational programs and enhancement projects throughout the parks system in the City of Allentown. The display generates funds for the thirteen youth recreation organizations serving the children of Allentown. It also provides funding for the Bureau of Recreations' Summer Playground Program, equipment for the Bureau of Parks and funds for the Allentown Crime Watch Presidents' Council for the patrolling of parks and recreational facilities. Part of the proceeds also benefit local community groups whose members volunteer to staff the display. Recipients include the Cub Scouts, school groups, the Allentown Fire Police and community groups.
